Oak Tree Run 2017

Last year 550 runners participated in our first Oak Tree Run (5K, 10K, and half marathon) and we were able to raise enough money for three and a half scholarships for the kids (about $21,000). This year Oak Tree Run will be on Saturday, October 21 at Jamsil Han River Park, with 100% of the registration fees and funds raised going directly to scholarships for the orphans.

Like last year, we are organizing a group to join an existing race in Seoul. The race is open to Koreans and foreigners, runners of all levels, walkers, and families. All backgrounds, ages, and skill levels are welcome. Parents are welcome to push their babies in strollers or walk with their kids.

Many have asked us how can you help us this year. A great way to help us would be to save the flyer below and post it on your Facebook or blog and to share about the run with your co-workers, school/academy (if you’re a teacher or student), community groups, and family. We will have the flyer printed and ready to distribute this Friday in Seoul. If you would like some flyers to hand out please let us know ([email protected]). Here is a video explaining Oak Tree Project that you can also share: https://vimeo.com/183467242.

For those running a business or a school, you could give an incentive for those who run. One restaurant last year offered a free cookie or drink to those who registered for the run. That helped increase awareness of the run for us and we were very grateful. Please also share about the run on any Facebook groups or communities you’re a part of. Thank you!

All of our 21 students and their mentors from Oak Tree Project will be participating along with many kids still living in orphanages. If you would like to sponsor a kid to run (33,000won) then please e-mail us at [email protected] or go here: http://give.oaktreeproject.com/en/oaktreerun2017.

Information about the run is below…

Race options: 5K, 10K, Half marathon
Location: Jamsil Han River Park (잠실종합운동장역/잠실한강공원)
Registration fee: 33,000 won
All registrants receive a t-shirt on the race day.

If you would like to join the October 21st race, you can REGISTER HERE.

The registration deadline is Thursday, October 12th.

Why do we run? For the orphans: Click here to read their stories.

Oak Tree Project currently has 21 students on scholarship and hopes to expand to 28 students in 2017. One scholarship is $6,000 per student. Our goal is to have 700 runners participate and for greater awareness to be raised about the kids and about the program. So please share this event and help us spread the word to friends in Korea!

For runners who would like to raise funds as an individual or with a group, you can create your own fundraising page here. On the site, underneath the picture click “Create a fundraiser for this project” and set up your fundraiser. Creating a fundraiser is very easy and can be shared with your friends, family, and co-workers.

Thank you for your support of Oak Tree Project!

    Hello organizers!
I am very excited to participate in the upcoming race. (I’ve submitted my application and am on my way to send the fee).
It came to my attention that there is another run scheduled on the same day at the same location – I’m just wondering if the run posted here: http://www.kksports.kr/m/board/view.asp?idx=1034&cates=notice&page=&bbs_cat1= is the same one as the Oak Tree Run.
It would be unfortunate for the races to interfere with each other. Anyways, it is most likely that you are already aware of this other event (if in fact it is not the same one) and have taken necessary considerations.
Looking forward to seeing you in 2 weeks.

    Hi there,

Since the deadline for the OakTree Run has passed, is it possible to join the run this Saturday without registering?
